In addition to Astrofest speakers and activities, there's plenty to do in Kankakee!
Take a scenic 6-mile canoe trip down the Kankakee River! The canoe run will start at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, following breakfast. Plan to arrive 30 minutes ahead, and to save time please have your waivers filled out ahead of time. Double kayak or double canoe $14, 3rd person under 12 is free. Kankakee River State Park is a scenic 4,000-acre park with the Kankakee River running through it. There is an incredible amount of things to do at Kankakee. First time visitors should stop by the visitor center to view exhibits and displays pertaining to park history and geology. The visitor center is also a great place to learn about the park’s features.
The Kankakee River provides anglers with a healthy population of fish such as bass, catfish, northern pike, and walleye. Equestrian trails cover 12 miles of the park. Kankakee also provides equestrian campgrounds as well as a riding stable for horseback rides and guided tours.
Other activities at Kankakee include biking, camping, canoeing, hiking, hunting, picnicking, and wildlife observation.
