Unheated Rustic Cabins are available for those who do not want to camp. You can rent a bunk in a cabin. The fee is $15.00 for the length of the star party. For your comfort, please bring a pillow and sleeping bag or blankets. There are 10 bunks per cabin. We try to accommodate groups by keeping you together, but unless a group purchases a complete cabin, more than one group may be in a cabin. There will be a women's only cabin and a handicapped cabin available as well. Cabin assignments will be on your badge and only those with a valid cabin space reservation will be allowed in the cabins.
Camping space is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Main Observing field will be marked with flags, delineating traffic lanes from camping lanes. The flags mark lines only, they do not mark the corners or boundaries of individual camping spaces. You may use as much space as is required to set up your equipment, however, because space is at a premium, please be conservative. If you use your vehicle to leave the site after you set up, we highly recommend you mark your parking space with a lawn chair or other similar item, or you may return and find that space occupied by someone else. Traffic lanes are 25 feet wide. Camping will be permitted in the following areas only; (1) Around the perimeter of the Main Observing field. (2) On the Main Observing field, in single and double (back to back) camping lanes, separated by traffic lanes running east-west. The single camping lanes are 35' deep and the double camping lanes are 70' deep (two 35' lanes back to back). (3) The Garden area, reserved for generator use. (4) The Electric field, reserved for attendees who need 120v electrical power for their telescopes. (5) Additionally, camping will also be permitted in the Cabin area east of the Main Observing field. Camping will not be permitted between the north edge of the Main Observing field and the Dining Hall / Lodge buildings. This area is for vendors and Astrofest Staff only. Be sure of where you set up! Anyone who sets up in a traffic lane or other non-designated area, will be required to relocate. Leave enough room between your camping space and the ones next to you, in order to avoid damage to property. Staff and security will enforce these camping rules. Please keep your site free of trash - thanks.
Attention RV owners: RVs are welcome, but there are no hook-ups. RV generators (including portable generators) cannot be operating on the observing field or any place where there are cabins, tents, or buildings. Vendors are also prohibited from running generators in the vendors area. A designated site (the Garden area near the entrance, just west of the main field) has been set aside for RV owners who need to run their generators. This is the ONLY place where generators will be allowed to operate! Please try to park the vehicle as far away from the main field as possible. Although we are trying to accommodate the needs of RV owners by allowing generators to be operated in this area, if we get complaints about generator noise or exhaust fumes, we reserve the right to order them turned off. Space in the Garden area is limited, so use this area only if it is absolutely necessary to run a generator.
