ASTROFEST 2002 REGULATIONS and GENERAL INFORMATION

We have always tried to keep rules to a minimum, however, the following restrictions have become necessary in response to past problems. It is our hope that they will make Astrofest an enjoyable experience for all who attend. We have arranged to have police officers present at all times during Astrofest. All regulations will be enforced.
General Prohibitions -

(1) No controlled substances, firearms, or fireworks allowed on the site.

(2) Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the site.

(3) Smoking is not allowed in the Dining Hall or cabins.

(4) Use the trash cans to dispose of your garbage.

(5) No pets.

Entry Times - You may enter at noon on Thursday if you chose the 3 day option. For those driving a long distance, and perhaps arriving early, Kankakee River State Park on the south side of Rt. 102, located a short distance east of the road leading to Astrofest, may or may not be open for you to wait there until noon Thursday. Please do not form a car line on Rt. 102. If you arrive after dark, flashing yellow lights will be at the junction of Rt. 102 and the road leading to Astrofest . Those registering for 2 days may arrive after 8 a.m. on Friday morning. Those registering for 1 day only, may arrive after 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. Police Officers will be at the entrance to the camp. Please follow any instructions they may give you.
On-site Registrants - Prices are $100.00 for adults (age 13 and up) and $85.00 for children ages 6 through 12. These prices do not include the cost of meals or cabin bunks. Absolutely no exceptions will be made to this rule!
ID Badges - All attendees must wear their ID badges at all times while on site, and upon re-entry onto the site.
Nighttime Driving Restriction - Vehicles will not be permitted to drive on the observing field between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. each night. If your vehicle is parked on the observing field, moving your vehicle during the restriction time is also prohibited. if you arrive after the restriction is in effect, or will need to leave before it expires, you must park off-field in the parking area near the entrance and walk onto the field. Emergency situations are exempt from this rule.
Vehicle Lights and Flashlights - Vehicle lights, exterior or interior, cannot be on at night - otherwise other attendees’ night vision will be compromised. Absolutely no white lights of any kind allowed on after 8:00 p.m. ! If you plan to be in and out of your vehicle at night, the interior lights must be disabled or covered with red material. If your vehicle has daytime running lights they must also be disabled or covered. All other lights, such as flashlights, must be covered with red material. NO WHITE LIGHT !
Vehicle engines - Do not run your vehicle’s engine on the observing field, in lodge areas, etc., day or night, for any reason except to immediately move the vehicle. Running your vehicle’s engine to get warm (heat) or cool off (AC) is prohibited. Someone else will be breathing your exhaust fumes.
Generator Restrictions - Generators, of any kind, cannot be operated on the observing field or anyplace where there are cabins, tents, or buildings, at any time, day or night. If it is absolutely necessary to run a generator, you must use the designated area; the Garden area near the entrance into the camp. While we are trying to accommodate our attendees who wish to use generators, we reserve the right to make the owners turn them off if any complaints about generator noise or exhaust fumes are received.
Observing Field Set-up - Campers must set up in designated areas only. Anyone set up in a non-designated area will be relocated. Don’t ask for problems by crowding the person set up next to you. Please leave sufficient space between tents, cars, and equipment in order to prevent damage.
Radios, Tape and CD Players - Avoid noise pollution! If you wish to listen to music, sports, etc., day or night, please keep the volume very low or use headphones. The people around you may not share in your interests. Be considerate. If the people next to you can hear what your listening to, it’s too loud!
Fires and Grills - No ground fires. All fires must be in a suitable container. Only charcoal lighter fluid can be used to start fires. Do not dump your charcoal on the ground. You must have an adequate supply of water in case of emergency. Do not leave the site of a fire until it has been extinguished. All fires must be extinguished as nightfall approaches.
